We are located on the campus of St. Luke's University Health Network, Bethlehem, PA, with another office in Phillipsburg, NJ, where our Director, Howard K. Horne, MD serves as Medical Director of Women's Health and Chief of Gynecology at St. Luke's University Health Network, Warren Campus.
Accent on Women's Health is in solo OB/GYN practice , where Dr. Howard Horne and his staff practice the way medicine was meant to be practiced. This means a focus on wellness and preventative care, generous appointment times, and establishing a working relationship with his patients through good communication and respect. He focuses on areas he feels are often not well addressed or afforded the time patients need in larger OB/GYN practices.
Our goal is to assist our patients in achieving healthy lives in a setting that is both comfortable and safe. Annual Gyn Exams
Are you looking for a small group to see for you annual GYN exams? You've come to the right place. Dr. Horne, along with his Physician Assistant, Rainie Werner, will get to know you personally and tailor your care to meet your personal GYN needs, ensuring your medical history, and that of your family's, guide the preventative health screenings (such as breast exams, pap smears, bone density and STI screenings) which are offered to meet your individual needs.
Minimally invasive surgery
Do you need minimally invasive surgery? Dr. Horne is trained in the latest and most minimally invasive techniques for performing virtually any form of gynecological surgery you may need during your lifetime—including state-of-the-art laparoscopic surgeries at St. Luke's University Health Network. Dr. Horne was the first Gynecologic Surgeon in the Lehigh Valley to perform a hysterectomy using the L.E.S.S. (Lapro-Endoscopic Single Site) System. In recognition of his knowledge and experience in managing younger patients, Dr. Horne has recently become one of the first Board Certified Gynecologists in the US to become designated by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology for Focused Practice in Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.
Obstetrics & pregnancy
Do you want to regularly see the physician who will deliver your baby? You've come to the right place. Dr. Horne sees his pregnant patients for the majority of their prenatal visits and attends all of his patients' deliveries, ensuring your birth plan is followed as closely as possible to provide you the safest, happiest delivery possible for you and your precious bundle of joy. Dr. Horne is supportive of minimal intervention in the delivery room and very supportive of breastfeeding, as his Nurse Practitioner, Lora Steffie, CRNP, APN-C, IBCLC (Internationally Certified Lactation Consultant), CLC (Certified Lactation Counselor).
Abnormal pap smear follow-up
Do you have a history of an abnormal pap smear? Dr. Horne is trained in all the latest medical advances, including colposcopy, which he is able to perform right in the office and follow-up is guided to meet your specific needs.
In office hysteroscopy & CYSTOSCOPY
If a hysteroscopy (view inside your uterus with a camera) or cystoscopy (view inside your bladder with a camera) is indicated, Dr. Horne can often perform this procedure right in the office, in under an hour, using the most modern (and smallest) instruments available, saving you the risks of anesthesia and the inconvenience of a day in the hospital.
In office Endometrial ablation
Do you have abnormal uterine bleeding? Dr. Horne performs all of the latest techniques for endometrial ablation. When appropriate, many of these techniques can be performed right in the office, requiring no hospital visit.
Breastfeeding care
Are you worried about breastfeeding? You've come to the right place. Lora Steffie, CRNP, APN-C, our Internationally Certified Lactation Consultant who provides a wide-range of breastfeeding services. She will work with you, prenatally, to provide you with the skills and techniques you need to be successful on your breastfeeding journey. If you encounter any issues, post delivery, Lora will assist you, while working with your baby's pediatrician to be successful with the breastfeeding experience. Accent on Women's Health is a cosponsor of Mother's Circle - a new mom's support group, which pregnant mothers are encouraged to attend. Chronic Pelvic pain
Have you been suffering from chronic pelvic pain? You've come to the right place. Dr. Horne specializes in the care of women suffering from common causes of pelvic pain including: endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, fibroids, adenomyosis, ovarian cysts, painful menses (dysmenorrhea), painful intercourse (dyspareunia), pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) and post menopausal changes.
